Wise Weddings, in Kent, is one of my favourite wedding ‘venues’ – precisely because it defies the conventions of what a wedding venue can and should be – it’s your own private woodland and fields, and a blank canvas to marry, party and camp – a very special place indeed.
Jodie and Jamie are absolutely adorable, and were one of the first couples to book me for 2014, so although I had a long wait for this wedding, it was well worth it!
They married in a humanist ceremony under an old oak tree, surrounded by decorations they made themselves, including the bunting, backdrops, flowers and even the gorgeous bridesmaid dresses that Jodie, who is a talented costume designer, made by hand. They served up spaghetti and meatballs they made themselves, and cocktails in jam jars, one of which might just have been made of Jim beam and Um Bongo… (By the way, Um Bongo as a cocktail ingredient – genius!)
I was only there for 6 short hours, but in the evening everyone partied to bands that Jamie, in his work as a music producer, has worked with and hung out round the campfire.
I absolutely love to work with couples who want to get married their own way – I love non traditional venues, places that let you celebrate your marriage the way you want – warehouses, woods, village halls, boats and pubs, beaches and fields.
Here’s just a ‘few’ frames from their day….
I’m also shooting the wedding of Tilly and Anthony, one of Jodie’s gorgeous bridesmaids in November and I can’t wait!
