How did you get into wedding photography?
I had been shooting actor’s headshots for a year or two when I got married and shortly after my wedding some friends of mine asked me to be their wedding photographer. That wedding ended up on Welsh blog ‘Cwtch the Bride’ and my next wedding, also for friends, made it’s way onto both ‘Love My Dress’ and ‘Weddings’ magazine. The rest, as they say, is history!
What’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time?
Spare time tends to be crazy rare in my world, so even though I really love travelling and adventures, my favourite kind of day off is to go for a long walk with my husband around the parks and countryside near my home and end up in our local pub with a beer and a burger.
Where’s your favourite place in the world?
Honestly, London. More specifically, my flat. It is in a beautiful listed building, has lovely gardens and my super hot husband is there, so coming home after a long day makes always makes me very happy.
If you were an animal – what would you be?
A cat, obviously! I’d get to lie in the sun all day and be stroked, why would I want to be anything else?!
What’s your favourite thing about weddings?
This is something I spent a lot of time thinking about before my own wedding – as I decided that a lot of the more old fashioned stuff wasn’t for me – and something that’s really become clear during the many weddings I have photographed since. I think it is pretty awesome when two people want to be married, want to have a wedding and want to make a public declaration of their love to anyone who will listen! To gather all of their friends and family in one place and have a massive party. And yes I love the theatricality of it. I love the amazing clothes and the special stationary and the music and the awesome venues from castles to pubs to cliff tops, and the meticulously home made decorations and the planning and the surprises. I love the tears and the laughter and the speeches and the raw emotions. I love the rib bruising embraces and the wild dancing and the tipsy relatives! I love the realness. I love the love. And I especially love it when people do it their way and make up their own rules – well, that’s what marriage is all about after all! The theme we chose for our wedding was ‘Our greatest adventure yet’. It was all about starting the next chapter in our story and embarking on a grand new adventure together. It was about starting something new and exciting, not settling down and stopping. This is what I love about weddings, and the way I approach every wedding I photograph.
Tell us a secret!
I am a closet Billy Joel fan and secretly know every single word to every single song he has ever written…OK, that’s not really a secret, I am out and proud!!
