ACE HOTEL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
When Kathryn & James told me a bit about their day, and that their first dance was Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, one of my all time faves, and one of the few songs that can actually move me to tears. The vulnerability in Karen O’s voice as it cracks and sings. That their dancing was half traditional slow dance and kind of half interpretative set the tone for the whole day – lighthearted, full of love and whimsy, set to the background of Shoreditch’s Ace Hotel on a hot May day at the beginning of our long, hot Summer.
Kathryn & James are a super stylish pair and their choices on the day reflected that – gorgeous flowers by Bloom & Burn offset the minimal, botanical setting of the Ace’s terrace Bar and Kathryn’s Jenny Packham dress and Gucci shoes were rather splendid. I started the day joining the boys at Ruffians in Shoreditch for a spot of grooming, before heading back to the Ace to spend some time with Kathryn.
They married in the Richmond Room at Islington Town Hall – a perennial favourite before heading back to Shoreditch for cocktails, cake and dancing, but not before we headed out onto the streets to shoot some portraits in and around the streets of Shoreditch – combining colourful street art, hard and soft light and places that are ugly/beautiful – my absolute favourite.
Anyway, I’ll let the rest of the photos do the talking, I can’t wait to share some more of what I’ve shot this year with you all over the next few weeks.
