engagement photos brighton
I haven’t blogged an engagement shoot for ages… After Snap I was itching to get out and start discovering new places to shoot, I almost always do my engagement shoots somewhere in London and as much as I loved it, I fancied a bit of a palette cleanser. So when Libby and Steve, who live in Hove, suggested heading to the South Downs for an adventure at Devil’s Dyke, I was super excited.
On a record breakingly hot day, we headed out of town in my little car, parked up and went exploring, The light was glorious and the breeze refreshing, and poor Libby soldiered on despite a cold, and I don’t think you’d ever know!
I’ve been back and forth in my mind about engagement shoots – in truth they are so different from your wedding photography – it’s an extended portrait session really whereas the wedding is all about storytelling, moments, a day you’ll never forget. Instead couples meet me, often after work so they can fit it in around their various pre-wedding appointments. It’s an intense amount of images of the two of you too and because you have no emotional attachment to that random evening, certainly not in the same way you would the wedding, it’s easy to scrutinise the images.
The thing is I love doing them, I love spending time with my couples, asking them questions about their big days, their likes and dislikes, maybe sharing a drink and helping to put them at ease about what it means to have your photo taken. That it can be fun, that there’s no awkward posing and only the chance to get a few shots from that very special time, when you were waiting to get married.
For that reason I love them, and I’ll be offering them to couples that book me for all day coverage for a while yet.
