Chloe & James – a humanist farm wedding

Rumbolds Farm wedding venue

On a very hot day in July 2021, just after all restrictions had been lifted, Chloe and James were married by a lake, under a flower arch in the hot Sussex sun at Rumbolds Farm, with celebrations in the Cart House Barn. They were looking for an unusual wedding venue, somewhere they could host a mostly outdoor day, and ended up with this particularly unusual wedding venue in West Sussex!

It was a beautifully DIY affair – flowers pulled together by a friend in event floristry, the two of them designed all of the stationary; all of the evening food co-ordinated by a friend who is an incredible food stylist. Their outdoor wedding ceremony, performed by Humanist celebrant Hester Brown, included amongst other things a knot tying ritual, and one of my favourite images from the day is the delight on both of their faces as their carefully bound hands gave way to the perfectly tied knot as they both pulled on the ropes.

Rumbolds Farm in Sussex, a barn wedding venue near Petworth, was the location – it’s a working stud farm as well as a wedding venue, so it seemed the perfect idea to try and get some photos of Chloe & James in the field with the horses at sunset. However the horses had other ideas, I think maybe they thought we were about to provide them with dinner, and wouldn’t leave us alone. A trio of city dwellers and a team of giant horses meant we quickly abandoned that idea.

This was a truly wonderful wedding, such a treat to be back and feeling pretty normal after the Pandemic too. I have so much to share from 2021 and the early part of 2022, and have been neglecting this blog in favour of other website updates – but I can’t wait for you to see it all!
