Fran & Guy – Chateau de Malliac wedding

Chateau de Malliac wedding Photography

Chateau De Malliac in Gascony

J’adore a French Chateau wedding, there’s something hugely inspiring about a change of scenery – the old, crumbling walls, the vineyards, the way the light behaves (That French light just hits different). They’re always a bit magical. I think, too, it’s also a bit magical to be invited to one – to stay the whole weekend in an old castle, to drink delicious local wine and eat those giant fresh tomatoes you always find in the South of France. And so, to Fran & Guy’s Chateau de Malliac wedding photography.

In September last year I made the mammoth trip by car (don’t ask me why, I think I just wanted to take some lightstands without worrying about whether they’d be allowed in the cabin) to Chateau de Malliac, near the French town of Condom (yes, that is very funny) for their beautiful wedding. The place is beautiful, but not too perfect, which is just how I like it, with the most wonderful shady courtyard for dining.

They married in a celebrant led ceremony in the Chateau’s old barn, Fran truly embracing the Hollywood goddess look (well, she is a super important Hollywood makeup designer, and designed all the makeup looks for the new Magic Mike movie, which is out now) thanks to the magic brushes of Botia’s Hair & Makeup. In fact the whole day looked like it could have been straight out of a film – the most beautiful flowers by Victoria Engelen and soundtracked by the work of John Williams – and all the way through to their first dance, back in the big old threshing barn, in the quiet but idyllic corner of Gasconny.

Times like this make me dream of leaving this rainy little island behind, buying my own little Gite and becoming a South of France wedding photographer.
