An Asylum wedding – Kaia & John
A Wedding at The Coin Laundry
Kaia & John got married in the hinterland between Christmas and New Year, when everyone is still feasting, dancing and toasting; with a beautiful wedding ceremony in Peckham’s Asylum Arts and heading to the glorious Coin Laundry in Exmouth Market for sharing platters, cake, quizzes and karaoke.

Wedding Ceremony at Asylum Arts
So, where should I start on a more detailed run down of this one… Kaia and John originally got in touch as I photographed their friends Morgan & Jake’s wedding in 2017 (another cracker which you can see here) and they were pulling their wedding together in just a matter of months. When we first Skyped I fell in love with their plans, and it was even more magical to see them come to life in real time and as the end result of a real labour of love. Kaia’s gold sequin dress was handmade by one of her Mum’s school friends, her mum made the light up jacquard cape (after originally saying ‘no you can’t have a fucking light up cape’, which was immortalised in a T-shirt they gave her later in the day) and Kaia customised her incredible crown, and her jewellery including wedding and engagement rings were from the amazing Tessa Metcalfe. The entire look was inspired by this year’s Met Gala Ball theme. John also looked fairly extraordinary in his custom jacquard floral suit and DMs. The two of them got ready together at The Zetter, and I kind of wish more couples would get ready with each other by their sides.

The Coin Laundry, Exmouth Market
After the ceremony at Asylum, in which we sang and celebrated in the round, everyone jumped on a bus and headed over to London’s Exmouth Market, where the Coin Laundry, with it’s old gin tiles, became the perfect backdrop to celebrate their love of cats, curly wurlys, and making up the music round of a pub quiz only using miaouws. Instead of a first dance there was a first karaoke duet, and John took the lead performing a perfectly timed routine to Single Ladies. All in all, an absolutely perfect day 2018 was too kind to me.
Thanks to Ahmani who second shot for me on the day.
