Nina & Chris – Wellington Wood Weddings in Norfolk

Wellington Wood, Norfolk tipi wedding venue

Wellington Wood is a wedding venue in Norfolk that ‘s absolutely perfect for couples looking for an outdoorsy celebration and a tipi reception without having to hire and co-ordinate all the different elements of the day, or negotiating dry hire. With a dedicated woodland ceremony space and a ‘3 hat’ giant tipi to party in, it stands in a beautifully cultivated wildflower meadow, which was especially glorious for Nina & Chris’ Wellington Wood wedding in August 2024. There’s also a couple of other alternative ceremony spaces, including an indoor space – ‘the Larch’ – in case the UK weather doesn’t play ball.

Nina and Chris were the dream to work with – not least because they were the very embodiment of the idea that you should bring the kind of energy you want the day to have. They’re actually fairly local to me, and when they suggested meeting in my favourite local pub (Hop Rocket, for anyone who also happens to be in NR2) I knew it was meant to be! If this looks like your kind of wedding celebration – get in touch or check out my portfolio.

A woodland humanist wedding ceremony

Nina and Chris started their day with a beautiful ceremony in Wellington Woods’ Woodland Circle – a clearing in the trees with the most epically beautiful light. They chose Jamie Walker as their wedding celebrant, who told us the story of how they met and how it intertwined with their careers in medicine. Before the ceremony itself began, Nina’s nephews merrily distributed dried petals up and down the aisle with abundant glee.

Sawing the Log – a German wedding tradition

After the ceremony, and a champagne tower, Nina and Chris tackled their first challenge as a married couple – Sawing the Log (or Baumstann Sagen auf Deutsch), a German tradition and a nod to Nina’s homeland. Apparently it symbolises their ability to work together, but either way this was a super fun part of the day, and the guests got really invested in how quickly they’d get through the log. I’ve been pjhotographing weddings for fourteen years this year, and it amazes me that there are always new and wonderful things to discover. But Summer weddings like these, where all the guests get to find their own adventures, spilling out onto the grass, occupying a little space – they are always my favourite. I love roaming, camera in hand, documenting all the little micro-stories that form part of the bigger picture of the day.

A Rue De Seine wedding dress and Mountain Song veil

And I couldn’t finish this post without saying something about Nina’s absolutely epic dress choice – which was the perfect Boho compliment to this amazing space. A lacy backless Rue De Seine dress with their iconic Mountain Song veil, which before I’d only seen via Pinterest. I thought it was worth flagging up in case anyone wanted to see the dress on a real bride.

Amazing local wedding suppliers

I’m going to give some credit to some of the awesome people who made the day happen, since I’m sure you’ll want to know.
