Ezetie & Elliot – Durslade House wedding

Durslade House at Hauser & Wirth Somerset

Getting Ready at Durslade House

Every now and then, a wedding comes along which totally knocks your socks off. Those weddings are frequently in October, when the early autumn sun hits just right and does something kinda magical. But this was more than that – the warmth of Ezetie and Elliot, and their families, their groups of friends and the beautiful setting of Bruton in Somerset – it all created some kind of alchemy and made one of my favourite weddings of the year.

They got ready in Durslade Farmhouse, a beautiful and artistically restored old farmhouse on the Hauser & Wirth Estate. With rooms dedicated to artists, installations in some of the rooms and layers of old wallpaper and paint providing an especially pleasing canvas. Both their families spent the weekend in the house – I arrived to the hubbub of bacon sandwiches in the kitchen and wagging dog tails.

After getting ready at Durslade House, Ezetie wandered with her parents through the backways of Bruton to her parent’s family home, and the studio that the wedding was going to be held at.

Their friend Jamie performed an intimate symbolic ceremony in the gardens with a handtying ceremony, where each family member brought a cord or piece of fabric to use. There was confetti in the haze of the setting sun before drinks in the garden and dinner by Pasetti and Boote in the studio, filled with dahlias and mirrorballs; before Ezetie and Elliot hit the decks and everyone partied the night away.
