And a Hackney Church Brew Co Wedding Reception

Emma & Will’s Hackney Town Hall wedding blew up on Tik Tok – for me at least anyway – with 30 (yep 3-0) followers at the time of writing, it had over 16k views. It proves that you don’t need a lot of the usual trappings of wedding culture to have a totally gorgeous day; no designer dress nor extensive venue decor, or entertainment for each part of the day or coverage of you getting ready in the morning IF you don’t want to. Instead you can just celebrate exactly the way you want to, in a room full of friends and family, with good food and good beer and have a damn awesome time. Nothing is assumed, and you can have photo coverage of your wedding in exactly the way you want.

It was the first time at the Hackney Church Brew Co for me and I have to say I loved the space – with huge floor to ceiling windows at the front, a relaxed industrial feel and, of course, great beer. They kept the decor in the space minimal, but celebrated with a huge sharing style feast. Later on the tables were cleared out of the way to make room for a DJ and a dancefloor.

A surprising favourite element of the venue was the little garden out the back – backing on the railway, it was nothing special really, but became the epic backdrop for some of these couple photos. Anyway, strong recommend for the Hackney Church Brew Co…..

Hackney town hall wedding ceremonies

Hackney might fast be becoming one of my favourite London Town Halls to get hitched in. It’s Art Deco interior, proximity to a whole load of cool places to go after and the wide plaza on Mare Street in front of it, which means it’s set back from the traffic and you can actually use the steps for some epic confetti photos unlike on, say, the King’s Road, where I’ll have to stand in traffic.

They have a number of spaces for different sizes and ‘vibes’ of ceremony within the Town Hall itself and all of them are run by Hackney Venues – a separate arm of the council.

North & South Atrium

Two big airy spaces that almost feel like they could be outdoors (at a push). Contemporary, modern and can accommodate a large ceremony

council chamber

Ideal if you’d like a ceremony in the round, or like the feel of the Council Chamber in other town halls. Lots of original period features and feels quite grand.

Committee Room

Suits a ceremony of up to around 30 people – at the front of the town hall overlooking Mare Street. This room is just off the Art Deco hallway and has wood panelling.

The downside of a wedding at Hackney Town Hall, as with most popular London Town Halls, is that you can sometimes feel a little bit rushed in and out of the building. Although not quite as popular as locations like Marylebone, you still find that the next wedding might be making their way into the building as you’re finishing up some photos on the steps; and you need to be super sneaky, not to mention lightning fast post ceremony if you want some proper photos in the Art Deco hallway at the top.
