Alex & Nelson – Asylum & One Friendly Place wedding

One Friendly Place wedding

Alex & Nelson’s One Friendly Place wedding was held in the week between Christmas and New Year 2021, which is ordinarily a magical time of year. However, the run up was pretty wrought in that we were all convinced the government would put us all into yet another lockdown. Somewhat miraculously, it didn’t happen, and the party wedding of the year, at Asylum and One Friendly Place went ahead. And it was awesome.

Set somewhere between Lewisham, Greenwich and Deptford; One Friendly Place is a huge warehouse, that’s usually a photo studio but makes an incredible South London wedding venue. Each floor has a different feel, but it’s stuffed full of curios, props and little vignettes which make it a wedding photographer’s absolute dream. I’ve been itching to photograph a wedding here since forever, so i was very excited when Alex & Nelson booked me as their wedding photographer.

Wedding ceremony at Asylum Chapel

The day started with Alex getting ready at home in Catford, with the lovely Alyse Baker on makeup and Monice Hair on styling duties. An intimate candle lit Asylum Chapel civil partnership ceremony in Peckham, a bus ride across SE London and we were at Friendly Place ready to party – there was gold, lots of it! Burlesque performances (yes, there were boobs and yes the Grandparents seemed to love it, scroll to the end to see!) co-ordinated by Bambi Bang Bang; and hippo dances.

It turned out to be just the celebration we all needed to round out 2021. Enjoy these images in a slightly random order (I entirely blame wordpress for scrambling them all, but it’s a kind of happy accident as I quite like them that way)

Mad Locations, the company that run Friendly Place, also run The Roost in Dalston as an East London wedding venue, which is worth a look if you want to get married in Hackney.
